Random Screen

Exhibition: Wednesday 31/1 - Sunday 4/2, 10:00 - 21:00 @ Exhibition Hall
'Random Screen' is a mechanical, thermodynamic screen working without electricity. Conventional tea candles illuminate and generate the changes on the 5x5 pixel screen. Each individual pixel of 'Random Screen' is an independent unit inwhich the candle serves as a source of light and, at the same time, the warmth it gives off sets a modified beer can in motion. The candlelight shines through a window cut into the beer can onto a projection surface and causes the pixel to light up. Together, the pixel boxes form the 'Random Screen'. This work is part of a series of low-tech screen projects that were originally inspired by the 'Blinkenlights' media facade of the Chaos Computer Club in Berlin.
