A Day to Remember

Liu Wei [cn]
VP 4: Chronic Recollection: Thursday 1/2, 18:00 @ Studio
Lounge: Wednesday 31/1 - Sunday 4/2, 10:00 - 21:00 @ Foyer
On June 4th, 2005 Wei walked with a camera to Peking University and the Tian'anmen Square. Both locations are closely connected to the incidents later known as Tian'anmen Square Protests or Tian'anmen Square Massacre. They refer to the violent ending of studential occupation of the square on the 3rd and 4th of June 1989 by the chinese military. On his way Wei asked people some simple questions concerning the 4th of June. Dodging words and averted behaviour demonstrate, that the Tian'anmen Square Massacre remains a strong taboo in present chinese society. Blank faces of younger people show evidence of the governmental propaganda strategy to cover and prohibit the topic thus causing the bloody incidences to slowly fade away in chinese collective memory.
