Gerard Couty lives in Hamburg and Berlin. In 1978 he founded Frigo, a platform containing a Cultural Lab, a video gallery, exhibition space and an artist in residence programme. In 1985 he joined with Frigo the European Media Art Network. Since 1979, he presents his video work and installations in multimedia exhibitions. He was editor of the Infermental Edition 4 and supervisor of six other volumes. In 1986 he co-founded Ponton Media Art Lab, Ars Electronica, Linz. 1980-1987 he was a member of the artist collective Minus Delta t. 1982-1989 he performed with the group Code Public-Frigo, a.o. in Québec, Amsterdam, Frankfurt und Hamburg. From 1993 to 1996 he had a university teaching position for video art and mew media at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts, Nancy.
