Taylor Deupree is a sound artist, graphic designer and photographer residing in Brooklyn, New York. He founded three music labels with different focuses.
The launch of 12k's sublabel LINE, with collaborator Richard Chartier, in September 2000, saw exploring conceptual, ultra-minimalist digital sound and the relationship between sound, silence and the art of listening. Over the past 12 years Deupree has recorded for several other labels around the world including labels in Japan, USA, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Finland and the Netherlands. Deupree has received much critical acclaim and recognition for his early musical projects including the techno and ambient sounds and has many recording accomplishments and a substantial discography. His design work has appeared on dozens of record labels around the world and published in a number of design books in Japan and the UK. For the past 8 years Deupree's music has taken influences from his passion for architecture, photography, and interior design and collaborative work with other musicians has played a large part in his output. Combining his computer techniques with guitarists (Christopher Willits), Pianists (Kenneth Kirschner) and vocalists (Sawako Kato) has pushed his sound in new directions and lead to one of the most pivotal recordings of his career: a complete re-working on an album by the acoustic, alternative/pop band Eisi from Japan. Such work has broadened Deupree's scope while helping to push modern electronic music into new frontiers.
