Susanne Fischer, born in 1968, is a German journalist and studied Political Science, History, and Spanish. After obtaining her Master's Degree, she worked as a contributor for several German newspapers and magazines such as "Sueddeutsche Zeitung", "Die Woche", "Brigitte", "Die Zeit", "Tagesspiegel", "Facts", and "Internationale Politik".
Since March 2005, Fischer has been working in Sulaymaniya at the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR), training Iraqi journalists. Since Summer 2005 she is the Country Director Iraq at IWPR. Together with Christoph Reuter, she has published a book titled "Café Baghdad: the Horrific Every-Day-Life in the New Iraq". Her second book titled "Die Villa am Rande des Wahnsinns: meine Frauen-WG im Irak" (trsl.: The Villa on the Brink of Insanity: My Female Flat-Sharing in Iraq) appeared in September 2006. Fischer lives between Hamburg and Sulaymaniya.
