Wolfgang Coy, born 1947, is professor for informatics and dean of the faculty for maths and science at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He studied electrical engineering, mathematics and philosophy at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt. His teachings and research include informatics and society, digital media, theory of informatics, social- and cultural history of informatics and computing. Coy is the author of numerous books and texts and pleads for informatics in society. Furthermore he is a founding member of the Hermann v. Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik.
