Diedrich Diederichsen, born 1957 in Hamburg, studied hispanistic, newer German literature, linguistics and philosophy at the University of Hamburg. After his studies Diederichsen was the editor of the music magazine Sounds and editor or respective publisher of the pop-culture magazine Spex. In the 80s he regularly wrote articles for Spiegel and konkret. Under the pseudonym Stefan Svoboda he composed reviews for the magazine Musikexpress. Since the 1990s he predominantly writes for various daily and weekly newspapers including Tagesspiegel, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Jungle World and furthermore for professional journals like Texte zur Kunst and Theater heute. Today he also teaches as a professor for Visual Communication at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart.
