Wulf Herzogenrath [de]

Prof. Dr. Wulf Herzogenrath, born 1944 in Rathenow/Brandenburg, earned his doctor's degree in 1970 in History of Art at Prof. von Einen's about Oskar Schlemmer's murals. From 1973 until 1989 he was appointed executive director of the Kunstverein Köln and curated there the exhibition 'bauhaus utopia, works on paper' (1988). He was a member of the direction of documenta 6 (1977) and 8 (1987) in Kassel and in the committee of the Goethe-Institut Munich (1985-1993). As central curator of the Nationalgalerie Berlin, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Preußischer Kulturbesitz he was from 1989-1994 responsible for the conception of  the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin's gallery for modern art. His numerous publications cover topics about art of the 1920s, Bauhaus, contemporary art, photography, video art and questions of mediation of art. Herzogenrath is head of the Kunsthalle Bremen (since 1994) and professor at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen (since 1995). At the Kunsthalle he organised various very successful special exhibitions such as the retrospective of Nam June Paik 1999, 'Der Blaue Reiter' (2000), 'Van Gogh: Felder' (2002/03) and 'Monet und Camille - Frauenportraits im Impressionismus' (2005/06). In 2006 he became a member of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin in the section of fine arts.
