Orhan Esen is an urban investigator and author. He studied sociology, art and architectural history and regularly organises excursions to 'the other' Istanbul, Esen is co-author and co-editor of 'self service city: Istanbul', a book that gathers analyses, essays, reports, interviews and images – not least to have a look at western European metropolises in which self-contained appropriation of urban spaces are excluded in similar ways from prevailing pictures of an urban civitas.
